I guess my comment wasn't about longevity (25 yrs D&SNG, 56 years D&RGW in a couple of basic formats), but about quality, or appropriatness, or authenticity--what's there now is a pseudo Victorian lettering format that conjurs up a false impression of time, both for the engine and for the railroad. Why bother with the authentic railroad Roman style of numbers that are on the cab, tender, number plate, and head light, and then switch to what appears to be an interior decorator's concept of cute lettering for the side of the tender? The lettering done on the letterboard of the B-2 (Cinco Animas), is done with style and skill, and entirely appropriate to the car--why not treat the tenders with the same respect?
