I received this message this morning from Gary Rollstin and I don't think Gary will mind me sharing it:
"My son was the fireman on train 462 (engine 482) yesterday. Talked to him late last night after he got back to Durango. He said near milepost 486 they encountered a flood of water and rocks on a left hand curve and immediately put the train in emergency. He and Bill thought they had went on the ground at first. After they discovered they were still on the rail their only thought was to get all the passenger back to safety in Silverton. Andrew said he jumped off the engine and started pulling rocks away from the drivers as Bill eased it backward. Even though they used the water from the fire protection tank they only made it to milepost 494 where they had to drop the fire because the water was getting low. He said the crew will definitely have a story to tell their grandchildren! GARY
