Earl: Thanks for the info. Like you I don't think that a curve is a highlight! I'll have to stop in Villa Grove and check out that stuff. The Round Hill tank structure is a highlight. I also agree with you that the meandering grade north of Villa Grove is worth mention.
Hwy 17 north from Alamosa is easily the MOST boring road I've ever taken. You could tie off the steering wheel and not have a problem for probably 40 miles.
Don't forget the non RR highlight- the UFO Watch Tower.
