Mike Trent: Old friend....I think we have to be carelul here. The shot of #9 all "Dressed up for the Fair" is different in many ways from how she looked in regular C&S NG Service. First, the 1939 headlight is the kind used on C&S#73 with a smaller number board, positioned above the center line of the headlamp itself. Second, the whistle apprears to be different. Third, the engine marker lamps appear to have been replaced by the round globe,(electric) lamps in the 1939 photo. The originals in most of her service where the "can" style, indicitave of oil or oil converted to electric.
Certainly the motive of looking old, (but modern) was the reason for the upgrade when 9 and the cars went to the Fair.
This has little to do with what she looked like in service up to and including...The End.
My impression is that the CHS and GLRR people want to make her look like she did pulling her guts out up to Kenoshia or Boreas, and/or racing across South Park. The details ARE the difference. Be well.
