How about...'it was ALWAYS breaking them.'
Once the car got upside down, the cars weight was all on the top boards and it would bust the side stakes. When I model mine I use the 'Clean Clay' from Alumilite to make a one time mold of the gon's side and I make Alumilite castings of several stakes. I cut a few short and add them next to a couple of the center stakes.
Sorry about the modelling break. Back to the 12" to the foot.
