And, Darel's explanation of the photo is easily substantiated by a simple field expedition to the picture location, that I did at lunch time today. The 482 was sitting in almost the same position today, and everything lines up beautifully. Most of the viewers, however, were much closer and the fireworks are even grander closer up. We have the largest fireworks display on the Western slope of Colorado, and beat out all the other places--so, up to 10,000 people descend on town for the 4th starting with the parade and ending with the fireworks. Even US Senator Salazar was in the Silverton parade.
When I used to print b&w photos pre-digital, dodging and other techniques were part of the action, so photoshop is just a tool in this case--no one's been deceived.
