The problem is that we can't actually see the crossing in the video - whereas Roger was there and was in the position to judge the exact juxtaposition of the truck and 487.
Roger says it was too close for comfort, to my eye / ear, his video doesn't really show what anyone needs to see / hear to make a judgement. For example, we don't know how fast the truck was actually traveling, or how long it was and therefore we can't be at all sure of where the end of the trailer was in relation to 487's plow. It might very well have been "hundreds of feet" beyond the crossing, or it might still have been in the crossing, we just can't tell.
What I'd like to know is what the engine crew thought about it. After all, they were there too, and if it was as close as Roger suggests, they probably thought so too.
