Sorry I have been so late in jumping in. I am trying to locate another job, as well as being up to my eyeballs in research. <img class=" />
I have 56 survivors to date remaining in the Philippines. They range from the only surviving Baldwin 0-6-6-0 Mallet (narrow gauge) to tiny European-built tank engines. All but a handful are derelict; most of them on the island of Negros.
As posted before, the lines remaining that are 3ft in gauge are sugar plantation and logging lines. There are actually nine steam locomotives on the Hawaii Philippines Sugar Co. line north of Bacolod; all 0-6-0s.
Looking at the 0-8-0s; there are the following survivors mentioned to date:
* Two ex-sugar Henschel built engines at Danao Development Corp.; near Toboso. 3ft gauge.
* Seven Henschel built engines stored more or less serviceable at Victorias Sugar Mill, Manapla, Negros. All 2ft gauge.
* One Henschel built engine at Don Pedro Sugar, Nasugbu, Luzon, Philippines. Derelict; 2ft gauge.
The Insular Lumber Co. line was 3ft 6in in gauge. The 0-6-6-0 and two Shays were ran on the that line. The 0-6-6-0 was cosmetically restored recently; both Shays are at Sagay Central Mill, Sagay, Negros, one dismantled, one derelict.
That's it. I think my records are fairly complete; but there may be some steam locomotives sitting derelict in the jungle that have gone unreported. Unfortunately, many of the derelict steam locomotives are being scrapped faster than they can be reported. I have roughly 280 steam locomotives that have or could have been scrapped since I started this project.
Good "talking" to you Andrew. Take care, and I will let you know if I find out anything new.
