Hi,
I have some basic coupler questions. What is the movable part called? The "face," the "knuckle," or what?
Secondly, photos I have seen show dual-gauge locos and idler flats with two couplers but only one movable "face." The assumptions being (1) the couplers are so close that the "face" on the NG coupler might interferre with SG coupling. (2) That shifting the "face" from one coupler to the other was far easier than moving the entire coupler (nuck, nuck) from pocket to pocket. (3) How many of the K series locos locos were so equipped? I've found a 1941 photo of 496 with dual couplers on the pilot (no plow of course) but the location of the photo was not specified. (4) Were there Mudhens or other "older" locos so equipped for "duty" switcher operations at key locations. (5) Was the little #50 switcher at Durango ever used for switching SG cars?
Thanx and Happy New Year, Gary
