Mike is right--my railroad thus my color selection, and for pre-WWII, I am going to stick with black.
I figured that the railroads probably used the trailer home roof gunk--who wouldn't? Works on trailers, must be cheap and functional: sounds like the RGS to me!
What I found peculiar is that the model photos I saw only had a silver pin stripe. The few photos I found appeared to have silver over the WHOLE roof. Like 453 in the 1950's, they got a bit carried away.
As I sad, I think I will stick to black and cut it with some white to grime it up a bit.
I am impressed by the number of photos of 0409 that seem to be out there. Of the 4-6 books in my collection there are perhaps 6 photos, mostly post war and often in movie paint.
