That roof has had several shingle jobs since 1970--we did a complete one in 1970-71, then the repairs after the bombing, and the D&S did a major job again about 3 or 4 years ago. The quality of sawn cedar shingles has deteriorated over the years as the old growth timber has become scarce, so these roofs don't last long in this climate, and that's why metal roofs are almost the rule in the high country ant more. But historically, that roof needs to be wood shingle.
