I'm looking for information on D&RGW practices for switch stands in the ‘30s – ‘40s. I know there are low and high stands, but was there a practice to use one in a certain situation or location? What about the targets, I see round ones and diamond ones, are they also used in certain situations or locations. What about the position/visibility (perpendicular or parallel to rails) of the target? I have noticed in photos that when the target is visible from the rails the switch is routed to go ‘straight’. If this is correct, what would the practice be for a wye?
Thanks for any insight.
