in 1971 I purchased two switch stands from the scrapper, American Compress Stell Corp, and personally removed them. As I recall there were two obvious types of the cast switch stands, and then there were a few lighter in weight and stamped steel.
The cast stands were one of two types in my memory. The first type straddeled two switch ties, and the second type sat on only one tie.
The second type was the majority of switch stands on the old Colorado and Southern NG, and was easily a two or three position mechanism.
The switch stand of the first type was cast, and removed from a siding at Navajo. Into its vertical casting it was cast... D & R G R R...meaning it was most likely cast at the Denver Shops.
The second stand of the type where it sat on just one tie, was legally removedd from the west main siding at Lumberton. This was the C&S type and easily cast in a two or three position mechanism.
