This may because of regional differences in nomenclature, but . . .
Locust and basswood are two completely different types of wood, at least here in the northeast.
Locust (genus Robinia) is a very hard, durable, long-lasting, disease-resistant wood. Basswood or linden (genus Tilia), on the other hand, is a fast-growing species with much softer wood.
