The flume spout at Whitehead Gulch (MP 492) disappeared about 1970. Does anybody know when the tank down at Kendall Creek (MP 494.5) was removed? As to my knowledge Silverton never had a tank, Kendall Creek was the closest to Silverton.
It is a long haul from Needleton to Silverton & back to Needleton (El Coke - a little help, how much water does a 470 use in this stretch). I remember reading in the Silverton paper about a westbound (southbound) DRGW train that got caught by a slide above Needleton in the 1970's. They had to wait for it to be cleared as the engine didn't have enough water to get back to Silverton.
That stretch might be tough for the 42. I think the Eureka gets water out of a hydrant in Silverton when it's up there.
