Here is a rough assessment of the new parts for #9:
-Cab, all new woodwork, metal parts reused. Also, all new cab floor.
- New flues for the boiler, as well as a new "T" for the dry pipe.
- New sheet metal for boiler jacketing. Bands are original (brass that the CB&Q put on for the Chicago Railroad Fair).
-Snowplow & front coupler (#9's pilot and coupler were removed for the railroad fair and replaced with a fake wood pilot and link & pin)
- Appliances, such as injectors and hydrostatic lubricator are being borrowed from C&S 74 as #9's were removed by an unhappy person in South Dakota who seemed to think he owned the locomotive.
-Saftey valves will be replaced with modern ones, originals still exist and will be saved.
- All air piping that runs under the boiler jacket is new, as the old stuff ceased to exist after many years of soaking in wet asbestos.
Other than that, on the locomotive, everything else is original, including the bell and bell holder. As an aded bonus, the C&S gave #9 one of #6's drive wheel sets, which remains on #9. What will be done to #9's tender remains to be seen, no work has started on it yet.
As for #74's tender, that #9 will be borrowing this year, everything except the bottom of the tank, some wood parts in the trucks and two journal boxes is original. The tender tank is the original from the Brooks factory in 1898, the tender frame was built by the C&S in the 1920's
