In looking through O'Berry's book, "The Mudhens", something of a pattern emerges. The early photos, through about 1939, seem to mostly show single note hooters, although a 1908 photo of 463 as a compound shows it equipped with a three chime and a 1923 photo with slide valves has a five chime.
Many of the photos taken during the 1940's seem to show five chimes, with a few three chimes. 456 is equipped with a dome topped 3 chime Powell or Lunkenheimer. By 1949, it was equipped with a five chime.
In later years, 463 seems to have kept its single bell hooter whistle, as did 464, but a 1950 photo on the RGS shows 464 with a three chime.
When 464 arrived at the Huckleberry RR, it was equipped with a single bell hooter, marked RGS #5. One wonders if the three chime belonged to the RGS and they put a single bell back on when they returned it to the D&RGW, using one from one of the scrapped 2-8-0's.
