While we're at it, what did the K-28s, 36s and 37s originally have for whistles? I've never heard any of them with anything other than a 5-chime. All the narrow gauge C- class engines had hooters as far as I know.
As a kid growing up near Pike View station along the D&RGW track north of Colorado Springs I remember that all the Rio Grande articulateds had hooters, as did the 2-8-0s. I can't say what the 4-8-2s had for sure, but I think it was a 5-chime, as were the 4-8-4s and 2-8-2s. I remember the C&S and CB&Q engines having nice sounding chime whistles. Santa Fe power was typical AT&SF chime whistles.
