That makes sense now. The pattern cost seems reasonable. But the $50 cost per step seems high. I suppose that the company used iron for the steps -- what is being proposed for the new ones?
I recall hearing that the steps used were once used on the early box cars instead of steps made out of round stock that we are all familiar with. If that is the case then irom makes sense.
Were the same style steps used for the restoration of the 4-wheel caboose at Golden? If it used the same style and had to make replicas they may have a pattern that can be barrowed.
