I would agree that preserving existing right-of-way is indeed the most feasible aproach to preserving some of these lines. However, they can't all be saved.
I wish him well in trying to do what he can to preserve the Creede Branch.
But in the case of California NG, rather than laying ng track in new locations, I think it would be best if ng fans in that area rallied aroung trying to save what is left of the West Side. I say this not because I like the railroad, but rather because you already have something to work with. It would have been nice if we at the SVRY had that much track to work with when the restoration project was started, but the group has had to do it the hardway. Like most groups it takes very dedicated people over a long period of time to accomplish these things, but there are many examples that they can be done. Best of luck to all of you who are trying to save some history in your own way.
