I had the great pleasure to be an extra hand volunteer on a flanger run on the Georgetown loop in 1998 or 99. We got the two ex-Gypsum diesels, the ex-D&RGW flanger, and a caboose and headed down the hill in mid Feburary to clear the line and make sure all the drainage was working correctly and that no large blocks of ice were forming in or on the roadbed. It was alot of sitting in the warm caboose in between sessions of getting out and hacking away at ice in turnouts. Even at slow speeds it's quite a sight to see the big flanger blade kicking chunks of snow and ice out along the ROW.
