A 2004 dated web site now shows the length of the 914mm gauge lines of Honduras National Ry as being 420 KM. In 1992 it was 277. There is still no word from anyone that it survived Mitch.
To reach the Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge you ride a bus 1.5 hours to LA Union and then change to a 'burra' or railroad cart for 9 km propelled by human on the old SFC track. It says the tracks lead to Campamento Salado, an outpost for processing coconuts of Standard Fruit & Steamship Co.
No reply from Dole Co. regarding their use of the railroad. I wonder if this is the most obscure railroad in the world!
