Out here on the left coast both the Michigan-California and the Diamond and Caldor logging/lumber railroads used link and pins to the end(1952). Indeed the State of Calif. safety rules regarding L&P couplers may have been one of the main reasons for the end of rail operations.
I believe that Westside still used Link and pins on some of its work equipment ubtil the end.
