I remember reading some years back that the D&S was going to have new boilers constructed for the K37's (497 was to retain its old boiler). I'd heard that they had removed the boiler off of the 499 to use as a pattern. This project was of course dropped because no boilers were ever constructed and the 497 went to the C&TS. Was the boiler ever taken off of the 499 and reattatched for display or was this all a bunch of hoopla?
