My Kodak Instamatic had given way to a Pentex 35 mm (still clicking after 35+years) for this trip to the NG Capital of the World. I can still smell the coal smoke as we dropped into town. I hadn't noticed it but in the previous photo of 473 it looks like this was the new ashpit location (previously was located by the coaling tower).
Another view looking toward the engine house with 481 and 497 slumbering (and parts source) while waiting for a return to steam, August 1972...
