Quite a few ng box cars being used for storage in that area, too, Bill. I guess most were purchased after the ng branches to the south and east of Montrose were torn up in the 50s.
If you're at all interested in NW CO early day ranching, there's a new biography of Ferry Carpenter out, written by his son, Edward F. Carpenter who lives in Grand Junction. Ed has related several stories to me over the years about shipping cattle on the Moffat Road out of Hayden, 17 miles east of Craig. Back channel me if you want contact info. -- Ed
