Re: I've got 26 inches, how about you?

I have attached a link to the SPCRR web page.
One of the exciting elements is that with the 26" wheels, the SPCRR will be able to build a new Carter 15 ton flat car from scratch. We had previously produced patterns for EVERY other cast part on the car. One condition of the grant was that the organization publish a catalog of the parts including the wheels for to share this technology with other groups.
The first set of wheels (26")will go on flat car 1725, the second (24") on flatcar 439. The original wheels from these cars will be used on other restorations, which will see limited operation.
We won't be using the Knight foundry... They are not currently in operation, and while there are some very active preservation efforts going on at the foundry, it may be some time before they are. The new wheels will be cast in steel.
