...speed? Don't I recall a discussion a year ago on this board about how the 470s were designed for passenger service and were the engines of choice for the San Juan? Didn't some of you P.E.s explain how they were good for 40 mph (had to do with lighter counter weights, rotating mass, yada, yada)?
Doesn't the gentler ruling grade on the eastern slope of Cumbres largely neutralize the tractive effort advantage of the bigger engines? What if a K-28 was assigned to the Antonito-Cumbres turn? Wouldn't that exploit its strength and make better use of that rehabilitated stretch of track from Antonito to Lava than a K-36?
Has anyone on this BBS ever put together an entire two paragraphs of nothing but rhetorical questions before?
