Swapping a K36 for a K28 wouldn't be a good business decision. A K28 couldn't handle more than five passenger cars up the 4%, compared to seven for the K36s and eight for a K37.
If a K28 returns to Cumbres, the most likely scenario is a short-term loan. I could easily see RGRPC and the D&S working out a deal to swap 463 and a K28 for a few weeks (besides, John West and I would really like to get shots of 463 in the Animas Canyon
" />). This is by no means a foregone conclusion - it would cost at least $20,000 just for the highway moves, so there would really have to be some lucrative specials sold to pay for it.
But unless the Commission decides to purchase a K28 outright, and the D&S agrees to sell, don't look for a 470 to stick around.
