Mike, the tires have great contour so we won't be turning them down. Initial reports are that the driving boxes and journal surfaces on the axles look good. Pins are another matter, with a couple of them in bad shape and they will need some work. The good news is that the D&SNG has started work on them. The pins will also need new rod buahings. Considering how little the engine will run,(probably 10 days maximum per annum)we will put only 150 days' operation (about one summer on a D&S or C&T engine)for the 25 year period of operation allowed by the FRA. Our attitude is "if ain't broke, don't fix it" but though with the 315's case some things like the boiler and frame look great, everything else was toast. It sat outside with little care for 50 years anything that wasnt steel needed replacement. The tender is all new, with only the trucks and other hardware being salvaged. The engine was also stripped down to nothing, with almost no appliances left on the engine. Even the firebox door was taken off- something that will reqire making a an entirely new one for.
