I suppose we may never know what all was going on with all the tender swaping in the 40's unless there are any old timers left that worked at the Baker shops in the 40's. I beleive it was season before last, we had a fellow who road the train, introduce himself to a couple of us on the crew. He had been a section man in the 40's. He told two breif annecdotes about his time with the SVRy.
One was of riding a speeder all the way from Whitney to Baker when he received word that WWII was ended in order to attend a celebration. The other was not so happy. He was one of the employees saddled with the task of cutting as much unnescessary metal off of the 250 and 251 in order to get their weight below a certain limit required on board the ship they were to go to Guatemala in. He said they ended up doing so much cutting that he was supprised that the Guatemalans were able to put them back together. I wish we knew how to contact this fellow because people like this if willing are great sources for the info that will otherwise be lost.
On the Rushton stacks, I found a picture of #50 in "Narrow Gauge Railway Scenes" by Adolf Hungry Wolf. The attatchment appears different than on the Mikados. It looks like there is a short straight stack with a flange just below the bulbous part with bolt going up through the flange into the cabbage part.
