I’m no expert, but the 1897 porter at Six Flags Over Texas has/had gravity feed sand lines. It looks like a simple reach rod from the dome to a lever worked some butterfly covers at the bottom of the dome. They still work by the way, but we never used the dome. We always sanded the rail by hand with the scoop.
Interestingly, I guess the Dickson (ALCO) from 1901 would have had steam lines because there are jets issuing from the dome?? I can’t find any valve for them in the old pics though. These light engines never had air breaks.
I read in a H. K. Porter spare parts catalogue once that sand domes could be purchased separately. It was a rectangular shape and not the traditional cylindrical type. Godchaux Plantation No5? had one of these for a while.
