Re: What's left of the Pacific Coast?

A small anecdote which some may not find as amusing as I did,
The San Francisco & San Jose Railroad (who built the Santa Clara depot) ROW to an extent owes its completion to Martin Murphy Jr, who allowed tracks to go through (and a station be built on) his property. This ranch later became the present-day city of Sunnyvale.
Martin Murphy Jr. also purchased the Santa Margarita Ranch from Joaquin Estrada, the original ranchero awarded the grant. The Santa Margarita Ranch is now home to the *new* Pacific Coast, which is privately owned and its equipment under the care of Phil Reader.
The South Pacific Coast ran from Alameda Mole to Santa Cruz (the latter portion from the Santa Cruz & Felton, a NG line chartered some years before). At Santa Clara, it proceeded through the Agnews/Alviso area (wetlands at the beginning of SF Bay) before heading East. In addition, the NORTH Pacific Coast operated through Marin and Sonoma Counties. There was no relation and both two were seperate entities.
