Jerry, you've burst my bubble, just when I thought I had all the answers. My halo is now hanging around my ankles. My source of info on the oil conversion is the sheet that Earl Emlaw the RR's chief engineer made out in 1947. I beleive Nils has the original. As you may know it contains a great deal of info on many of the locos with dates as to when various changes were made. It says nothing about oil conversion on 19 and 20, which of course doesn't mean it didn't happen. I'd love to see the picture you mentioned. Some of our senior members have said that 19 and 20 were converted up North, and I've even heard it said that they were operated on either wood or coal on the White Pass for a while. What seems contradictory is that wasn't the White Pass a coal burning RR in the 40's which is why the D&RG locos were taken up there? If so why would they have bought oil burners in 1941 from the SVRy. Perhaps some White Pass person can shed some light on this. The truth should not get in the way of a good story, but when I'm on the train crew and people ask questions and expect us to expound a bit on the details its nice to have the facts straight.
