Bret is real close with what he says (above). The individual in Salem is Michael Schlag. The telephone number for his River City Railroad Company, given here with Michael's permission, is 503-391-5936.
Michael is doing a fine job of restoring two 20-ton Vulcan 0-4-0 tank locomotives. He owns an industrial machine shop, so has the tools, equipment, and knowledge to do most of the work. He has several helpers who are working with him on this project.
The Vulcans were built in 1930 and worked until 1961. They were described in an article about the Kirkfield Crushed Stone Company of Ontario, Canada, in the Jan-Feb 1988 issue of the Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette, pages 26-30, and a drawing of one of the pair is on page 17 in the May-June 1988 issue of the Gazette.
Michael will be ready to run in a few years (say 3 to 5), and is interested in running one or both at the SVRR.
I don't know the individual in Dallas, but Michael does, and I understand that he, too, would likely be interested in operating his locomotive on the SVRR. The Dallas locomotive is a narrow gauge Porter 0-4-0 mine locomotive that operates on compressed air. It is well along toward being operable, but is not ready yet.
