Re: C&S 70 Oil burner & Boiler Explosion

Well, some interesting threads on C&S 70.
Some further 'wonderings':
1. It appears that 537 may have been converted from oil to coal at the Joint Line Shops in North Denver in 1930 when received from the Q. Is this correct or was it done by the Q while still in the Black Hills?
2. For what it's worth, one might think the C&S converted it at Denver and used part if not all of the equipment for test on the 70. (That's an obvious statement.)
3. Why the 70? Maybe 70 was coming due for or just started into class repairs when the decision and AFE was authorized to do the conversion. I.E.: The 'luck of the draw'.
4. Was trying to "read a little deeper" into the details of Charlie's post in that, 537 was leased to the C&S in 1930. So, where did the Q shop the NG power that it used on its Black Hills operation?
5. I seem to recollect that part of the conversion decision was based on the using a small engine on the Clear Creek sub (537 wasn't usable in the canyon clearance issues and/or bridge restrictions?) was because of fire conditons and time lost on the road cleaning fires and front ends?
For example, either one of the old heads or read somewhere that every west bound train stopped to clean fires (& front ends if needed) at begining the 'turn' (Empire? Where I70 splits off from the old road over the pass) to run up to Georgetown and Silver Plume. And there was still lots of cinders & ashes there until the Interstate went thru.
6. As a thought, by converting the 70 for the CC line, the So. Park main would get another piece of (badly?) needed power, as the Depression should have been making a negative effect on the NG business and money for shopping worn outt power. (This almost sounds like something from one of the CRRM annuals or RMRRC books.)
7. Anyone want to pass a thought on that one (no "wind" if you please)?
Yes, it nice to check these threads out. You might take the person out of Colorado & the NG, but you can't take that out of the person!
Thanks to all for your responses.
