Regarding James Freeland's comments about steam cylinder oil...when I first went to work for Std. Oil of Cal. in 1970, we made 3 different grades of this product. They were all paraffin-based oils: two were for Saturated Steam & one was for Superheated Steam. When I retired in early 1999, I believe the only grade that was still offered was for Superheated Steam. I'm thinking that the demand in the last 30 years for the low-temp stuff had just disappeared like most of the reciprocating machinery around.
