Homestake Air Trammer

The photo (from Dan Myers' site linked above) was taken in the old Sacramento Shops in storage by the California State Railroad Museum, who received it after it was donated by volunteers at the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad. It's former Homestake Mining #12. Ken Middlebrook and Dave Johnson of the BJWRR brought back the locomotive from South Dakota in the early/mid-80s. After Al Smith paid for the railroad's new diesel locomotive, it was no longer needed; and I think it was Ken himself that took care of getting the locomotive donated. Both Ken and Phil Reader will probably find this thread at some point and chime in; they'd be able to say more about it. The BJWRR's diligent historian saved a couple of articles concerning this locomotive's acquisition and probably donation, too. Haven't seen those albums in quite awhile, but I do remember it being there.
