I'm pretty sure that Chad's engine wasn't named "Sespe." (WITH the period) until her subsequent owner, Stan Garner of Short Line Enterprises, moved her to Fillmore, CA, in the early 1990's. Sespe Creek, which passes through the Sespe Condor Sanctuary wherein a condor of the name Sespe was released into the wild a few years ago, forms the western border of the town. Last month, for the princely sum of $50 donated to the local RR society, I was privileged to play engineer on the "Sespe" (repainted without the period after her name). We ran her a couple miles west from the depot to the middle of the bridge over her namesake creek. Damp, pithy firewood made it difficult to keep the pressure above forty or fifty pounds - resulting in a wussy whistle, a slow trip, and a very iffy return.
