This is a plug for the reconstruction and maintenance activities of the Friends each June and August on the Cumbres & Toltec. The most authentic scene, in my opinion, is Sublette. Section House, Bunk House, coal shed, speeder/tool shed (half of a wooden standard gauge boxcar), watering plug fed by an underground tank (spring fed). Sorry, no outhouse. All trains stop for water. Two wheel drive Forest Service road to the top of the hill above - walk in about 1/4 mile. Wouldn't want to spoil the scene with automobiles less than 50 years old. The railroad's passenger cars aren't authentic. Our neighbors to the West got them, but the locomotives sure are.
Thanks for the contributions to this discussion. They have added a fair amount of high-lighter ink to our Rand McNally North American Atlas'. Prepare for your post-retirement grand tours.
