What you say is true. Maybe a bit too unique for me. I was there in the 60's as a kid. Plenty of fog and cold on that mountain. Still its steam!
Not ones idea of prototypical steam engines though, which was a factor in my thinking.
I tend to look at things from a standpoint of photography since thats what I do. So, I ask myself, how can I put together an interesting 10-14 day trip. The answer always comes up being the former D&RGW D&S and C&TS for a lot of steam within a 100 mile distance, and unlimited photographic opportunities if one is willing to spend a week or so, which would include riding them.
Most of the others on the list would be hard-pressed to photograph or hold ones interest for more than a day!
I am sure everyones personal list is also based on proximity to where they live. Like I said I would like to make it to Sumpter someday, but its about 2000 miles away, and not near much of anything else. Its high on my list for when I get out that way someday! From what I have seen this place is highly under-rated!! Okay Ron, send me my commission check now!
