Railbanked US narrow gauge track

The Huckleberry RR is operated by the Genesee County Parks & Recreation Commission. I started as Master Mechanic in January of 1990. The new East Loop was built in October 1990. I don't know if I can convey how difficult it was to convince the Director of the Parks to leave the old East Loop in place. It took all my powers of persuasion to change his mind. He wanted to scrap it out, thinking that we would get piles of money for the rail. Fortunately, scrap was low at that time and I showed him that we would probably spend as much in labor in lifting it as we would get paid for the rail. I still hope that someday we can re-open it, but I can't see that happening in the present economic/political climate. Thanks for posting your pictures, Jason.
