Remember that steam to most Class Ones is a burden.......and the problems that come with it are not mechanical for the most part. It comes from peope being extremely irresponsible on railroad property every time one of the steamers runs.
Take heart. The SP 745 is running across Louisana on KCS( a first in the excursion era) BNSF AND UP. Even better,she is making these trips unassisted. If we can solve the people problem,we can solve the steam problem. The 745 bunch is on the right track.They got the cooperation of THREE Class Ones....
Never say what may or may not happen. The bottom line is once you get your shot,this is how you survive:
1. Be professional;
2. Know your locomotive,your train, your railroad and your rule book;
3. Plan for the unexpected;
4. Make your train just like every other one on the railroad,except it's steam powered.
