John Birmingham! That is the name I couldn't remember. The Fillmore & Western never owned #51, they just leased (or borrowed?) her from John for a few years. One of the problems they had with running #51 was that one or another of the Birminghams always had to be present. Since F&W didn't own the engine, maintenance - and correction of some fuel-supply problems - was problematic as well. I rode on the tender once from Santa Paula to Fillmore, and remember the fireman having a LOT of trouble getting oil to flow to the nozzle in the firebox.
