Sounds like some of that 60 centimeter/2 foot gauge stuff and lines that ran in an around the Nile delta. Think the official name was Egytian Delta Light Railways and still rember reference to it in old "Janes". They supposed to have used quite a bit of old WW1 trench railway stuff from that time.
