Your note about the hokey train robbery reminds me of many years ago when a cowboy-garbed man on horseback used to meet the returning D&S train as it lazily chugged along beside hiway 550 toward Durango. He would ride at the side of the rail roadbed alongside the length of the train (easy to do since the horse could go faster than the train) and reach out and touch the passengers' extended hands. Kids of all ages loved it. It was a stunt to publicize an eatery that stood on the hiway, which of course we'd pass on down the line. At that point he would stop and wave to all as the train continued on, as would all the eatery employees who were standing on the back platform of the restaurant. Needless to say, it probably brought lots of people back out to eat dinner at that restaurant once they disembarked at the end of the day's train ride. Wish I could recall the name of the restaurant, and learn whether it's still in business. Anyone else remember this?
