An interesting article indeed. However the last paragraph contains a mistake. Miz Smith (nobody I know ever called her Violet, you only did that if you were a very good friend or relation) never ran off a FEDERAL mine inspector at gun point. She told me that herself. However, her husband, Ian, did once. If you knew her, it was obvious that she didn't need a gun to intimidate anyone. It wasn't the state inspectors she had a beef with, it was the Feds. The state boys could inspect her mine anytime they pleased.
Safety was a very important issue with her.
