Fred,
Andy Payne included two pictures of #50 in his pictorial book "Grande Gold", of #50 in Durango.
The first is October, 1964 and it is in service.
The second is taken with #50 loaded on a two axle lowboy trailer, headed for the West Coast. The date is February 4, 1970.
So, while I'm not sure when it was placed in service in Durango, the day it left is nailed.
