Words cannot express the buffoonery of all this. It is amazing how competant people can be sucked and duped into such rediculously idiotic schemes.
Consider this, (CHS are you resding this? I doubt it), there was a fully operational and successful railroad company in place prior to Dec 31, 2004. There was some financial issues of relatively small amounts that were in question.
On January 1, 2005 that all changed as a result of events that have been covered repeatedly here. Now CHS is spending REALLY BIG chunks of money to re-establish a railroad operation to the Loop. All this because of a couple of over-inflated egos that have the 'my way, or the highway' attitude (not to discount, either, the underlying potential efects of I-70 widening and other real estate develop threats).
Imagine for a minute what could be done elsewhere in Colorado with all that money that CHS is throwing around to cobble together a railroad operation that is, so far no more historically correct for the ex-C&S ng loop area than the equipment of the previous operator. And that was supposedly one of the complaints that the CHS had about the GLRR.
Think of the money that Fritz Klinke could use over in Silverton, or over at the C&TS to apply toward locmotive and track work upgrades, or for Jason's Boulder based projects, etc, etc. Sure some of these are getting some 'fallout' in the form of rider gon refurbishing and the like. But overall, it just dosen't make a lotta sense.
You know, it is quite possible that Railstar will made some a go of it, but at what cost to Colorado and all of the other worthwhile things going on there.
BTW, It is interesting to see faces put with the names. Thanks for the link.
