Re: Sumpter Porter? ex-US Gypsum

It wasn't free for the taking. Because it was state owned an acceptable trade was worked out.
The Porter has Westinghouse electricals. I heard some speculation that it might be possible to replace the Westinghouse electrical sys. with the more common GE stuff from this parts donor loco. Both the Porter and the GE have 14EL brake systems, so again more spare parts. The Porter is of course still at the Huck. I guess SVRR is waiting for some good fortune to show up that will enable us to get it to McEwen. This was basically all posted here a couple years back, but being diesel, probably not much attention was drawn to it. Finding the parts donor locos is a new thing, something we couldn't very well pass up, even though we haven't got the Porter to Oregon yet. Cooper Bessemer engines are NOT a dime a dozen by any means.
